High Camp. Passing by crevasses. Bizarre structures and shapes. A walk in the white. Bright sunshine and endless snow fields in front. Each black dot a climber, porter or guide - like chain links of a pearl necklace. Pitstop at Mera La. Fun: Snowbunny. Passing by other climbers in file. Not alone at High Camp. Wind in the afternoon rocking the walls of our tents. One more night. Close to our goal: Mera Peak Central. Waiting for the night to come. A couple of days ago reaching the top seamed to be impossible. Luckily the weather changed. How would the climb be? What about the view? - Rewarding?
An exhausting day is laying in front of us. Up and down again to Khare. At dawn tense silence captures the camp. Expectations lay heavy on the climbers. Is failing such close to the peak an option? What would be the reward after all these efforts? Excitement and tiredness. Closing eyes. Turning off impressions - just for a while. Some hours rest.
